SEC will limit automated searches to a total of 10 requests per second, regardless of the number of computers used to make the requests, to ensure that automated searches do not interfere with the ability of other users to access the EDGAR Web sites. This measure - consistent with the agency's Internet Security Policy - will be implemented on July 27, 2021, beginning with the EDGAR portal and the EDGAR corporate database
If a user or application makes more than 10 requests per second to EDGAR websites, SEC will limit further requests from the IP address(es) in question for a short period of time. When the number of requests falls below the threshold of 10 requests per second, the user may resume access to those websites. This practice is intended to limit excessive automated searches and does not affect use by individuals.
As stated in the Internet Security Policy, SEC does not allow automated tools to search government websites. Any request identified by SEC as part of an unclassified bot or automated tool that exceeds 10 requests per second will be managed to ensure fair access for all users.
